The Protestant Church of the Redeemer is the only Protestant church in Bad Kissingen nowadays.
In 1824: 1069 inhabitants, with 902 Catholics, 163 Jews and 4 Protestants
A population census in 1824 clearly showed that the majority of Bad Kissingen's residents was Catholic. However, the following years brought an increasing number of spa guests and most of the 4,000 guests counted (for example in 1839) were Protestant. Therefore it was deemed necessary to have Protestant services in the Catholic parish until the first Protestant house of prayer was built in Bad Kissingen in 1847, funded by Ludwig I. However, as the number of spa guest kept increasing during the following years and in 1882 had exceeded the mark of 12,000, the church was expanded in 1890. Since its last restauration in 1980, the church has been named Church of the Redeemer.
