Don’t miss the by now almost “invisible” Ludwig Tower on Bad Kissingen’s Staffelsberg hill when you tour the town. The best way to get there is on foot. It is accessible by car, but with restrictions.
Trivia about the Ludwig Tower in Bad Kissingen
The Ludwig Tower was completed in spring of 1883 after two years of construction. That makes it the oldest observation tower in Bad Kissingen. The construction project was initiated by the mayor at that time, Dr. Carl Fürst. The tower was named after King Ludwig I of Bavaria, from the royal house of Wittelsbach. The tower used to be a popular destination and quite well-known among spa guests due to its superb view of the town and surroundings. A highlight for visitors at that time was the inscription on the tower wall, bearing information on the exact geographic location of the Ludwig Tower. However, now trees that have grown tall over the years block the view of Bad Kissingen and the tower is not publicly accessible anymore. Due to a lack in funds, the derelict tower will not be restored for the time being.
