The fire tower is the only one still preserved of a total of 14 towers of the historic town fortification from of 14th century.
Club house with a view
Due to the increasing number of spa guests, the town wall was torn down between 1840 and 1850, as room was needed for new lodgings. In 1850, the municipality of Bad Kissingen had the 26-metre tower rebuilt into a fire lookout tower, equipped with a fire bell. Until 1960, people lived in the fire tower, however, at that time it was not used as a fire lookout tower anymore. The “Feuertürmle”, ("little fire tower"), as it is affectionately called by Bad Kissingen residents, has been the club house of the Rhönclub since 1989 after it was restored. Events such as regulars’ tables and club meetings take place on a regular basis.
